The following 50 lots represent a special offering of elusive postal stationery, including scarcer “normal” items, as well as errors, varieties, proofs and essays … many are extremely rare, some thought to be unique. Each item has been signed “C. F. Hass”, and is FULLY GUARANTEED IN PERPETUITY AS TO ITS AUTHENTICITY. It should be noted that forged surcharges are ABUNDANT in the marketplace, particularly of the errors and varieties of the 1892 “5 MILLIÈMES” bilingual surcharge on the 2 piastres orange envelopes of 1888. A number of the latter offered here are ex-Mackenzie Low collection, some signed by E. L. Angeloglou (“ela”). It is a fact that after the adoption of the issued surcharge formats for both the 1891 “3 MILLIÈMES” postal card and the 1891 “5 MILLIÈMES” envelope, a few of the unadopted essays were accidentally or intentionally mixed-in with the issued cards sent to the Alexandria post office. In rare cases, they were postally used, the cards having been employed generally as “change of address” notifications. In some illustrations of the following lots, the stamp vignette has been enlarged and superimposed for the sake of clarity
