New Postcard Book

The international exhibition organised by the Philatelic Society of Egypt in Sharm el-Sheikh is scheduled for November 16-18 and will definitely take place in conjunction with the UPU-related PosTech conference on postal technology at the Jolie Ville Maritim Congress Centre and Hotel in Naama Bay, Sharm.

Sherif Samra, President of the PSE, is hoping to mount an extensive series of frames for competition to be judged with (unofficial) awards, so it will be similar to Cairo 1991. Exhibits of five frames of 16 sheets (80 sheets in all) are requested, as well as the attendance of as many ESC members as possible. Security of material in the frames as well as insurance will be guaranteed.

Several members have expressed an interest, both for the visit and to display, from Continental Europe, the Americas and the UK.

It is envisaged that a trip will be organised from the UK, that it will last at least a week – those intending to exhibit will need to be there a day before the exhibition opening, to hand over their material - and will include a few days in Cairo afterwards, to meet up with old friends and for the joy of haggling with dealers. Others may simply be content to chill out in Sharm and maybe play a round of golf or do some snorkelling.

Those who wish to join this expedition should please let the Secretary know as soon as possible. And we’d be grateful if those who may wish to make their own way from different parts of the globe could let the Secretary know so we can co-ordinate events.

This could be the biggest display of Egyptian philately for many years – and perhaps of the 21st Century - so don't miss out.    Links: Maritim Congress Centre, PosTech
The New Zealand Chapter of the ESC is considering holding a conference in New Zealand in February 2009. We have previously had seven very successful conferences, the last being in February 2004.

Planning for the conference takes time and effort, and it is essential that our New Zealand colleagues know as soon as possible what numbers will be attending. For this reason we should like to receive expressions of interest before the end of July.

Members considering attending should contact the ESC Antipodean Agent, Tony Chisholm (ESC 288), by email at j_t_chis@clear.net.nz or by post at 13 Arden Way, Wilton, Wellington 6012, New Zealand.

We look forward to a successful conference such as those we have had in the past, with good company, exciting philatelic material, and all in wonderful surroundings.

The June QC has been mailed.
