Egyptian Watermarks
Watermarks are shown as seen from the front of the stamp.
First Issues (1866 - 1920)
- The Two Pyramids: First Issue (1866-1867). Narrow section to left or right. Also found inverted.
- Narrow Star & Crescent: Second Issue (1867) & Postage Dues (1884). Impressed into paper, not true watermark.
- "Fatter" Star & Crescent: Third Issue (1872-1879). Also found inverted.
- Narrower Star & Crescent: De La Rue Issues (1879-1920). Two forms. Found inverted and sideways.
Issues of 1921 - 1959
- Multiple Star & Crescent: Harrison printings (1921-1926). Facing right (standard), but found in all directions.
- Multiple Royal Cipher: Survey Dept (1925-1957). Found inverted, reversed, sideways.
- Eagle & Republic of Egypt: Survey Dept (1957-1958). Found inverted and sideways.
- Eagle & Masr (Egypt): Survey Dept (1958-1959). Found inverted and sideways.
Issues 1959 to Date
- Multiple UAR: Arabic & English. Survey Dept (1959-1962). Found inverted.
- Multiple UAR (Close Spacing): 35mm separation instead of 45mm. Survey Dept (1959-1962).
- Multiple Eagles: Used from 1962 to date.
